Description: Continued rains, Hurricane Florence, tariffs and depressed commodity prices resulted in continued stress for farmers and rural communities in 2018. Uncertainty and stability or farming operations within North Carolina is common. To help farm families through this difficult time, NC Cooperative Extension is cooperating with North Carolina Farm Bureau’s Hurricane Relief Fund to offer Thinking Outside the Bin: Helping Farm Families Through Hard Times workshops. The purpose of the workshops is to provide farmers with tools to evaluate their farm’s finances, resources to help them navigate their financial well being and to learn techniques to identify and manage stress. Additional resources including individual assistance will be offered to those interested.

Personal consultations, review of finances, free health screenings, farm transition discussion and more will be offered. A complimentary lunch will be provided at the end of the session.

Register by calling the NC Cooperative Extension, Craven County office at 252-633-1477 or email Jami Hooper at:  jami_hooper@ncsu.edu

Description:

Effective communication, and skillful public speaking are not innate abilities. The 4-H Public Speaking Program allows youth opportunities to develop these important life skills, and to practice in a fun, positive environment. We will meet twice a month working on speech writing, oration, articulation, and presenting speeches before an audience. Participants will research, write, and present their own presentations, create slides, and present at County Activity Day on May 18th, before going on to the South East District Activity Day Presentation Competition.

Who can participate?

The program is open to all, youth ages 9 - 18 will create a 5 - 12 minute presentation for the competition, and youth age 5 - 8 can also participate by presenting a 2 - 4 minute presentation on a topic of their choosing. These early learning experiences can form foundations for development to build educational, and social structures for future success.
