On April 15, 2023, from 10:00AM to 2:00PM, Pamlico County Government is hosting a citizens Clean Sweep event to collect roadside litter from across Pamlico County.
If you would like to take an active part in managing the problem of roadside litter in your local community, please consider volunteering for the 2023 Spring Clean Sweep event. To pre-register and receive supplies, please contact Jeremy Forbes at 252-745-4240 or Daniel Simpson at 252-745-4121 (Daniel_simpson@ncsu.edu). You may also register the day of the event at 9:00 AM at the Pamlico County Public Buildings and Recreation Department (208 Main Street, Bayboro, NC 28515) located behind the Pamlico County Courthouse. Supplies include gloves, trash grabbers, safety vests, and trash bags. County staff will help to arrange for pick-up of collected litter, we just need to know the location that volunteers wish to clean up. Please join us for this event and help Keep Pamlico County Beautiful!
Remember, roadside litter is an ever-present problem that detracts from the beauty of our local landscapes and poses risks to our environment. Litter can endanger wildlife with physical and toxicological hazards, can reduce property values, and discourage customers from entering local businesses.
So, what can you do to help prevent the problem of litter in Pamlico County? According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, one of the largest contributing factors to roadside litter is from unsecured loads in trucks. Trash and light items can easily be blown from a truck bed and large heavy items can be lost at high speeds. By securing your load with a tarp, net, rope or chain, you can help prevent items from becoming litter, while aiding in the protection of other motorists that might be struck by debris.
