Collapse ▲The North Carolina Cooperative Extension Pamlico County office will be conducting a Master Gardener Training Class from February 7 – March 21, 2023. This training class will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., and will cover approximately 40-hours of instructional material focused on home horticulture. Cost for this program is $135.00 and includes supply costs and a hardcover copy of the North Carolina Extension Gardener Handbook, 2nd Edition. Topics for this class will include:
- Basic Botany: How Plants Grow & Starting Seeds
- Soil: Understanding Soil Fertility & Improvements
- Small Fruit & Tree Fruit Production
- Home Vegetable Gardening
- Lawn & Weed Management
- Insect & Disease Management
- Ornamental Plant Care & Plant Propagation
- Practical Problem Solving for Homeowners & Master Gardeners
Applications for this program will be accepted through January 10, 2023 at our office location and online. The course syllabus is linked within this application. Participants will be notified of their acceptance during the week of January 10, 2023, via email. Additional information, as well as payment options, will be included in that email.
Participants who wish to pursue the title of Extension Master Gardener must first complete this training course and complete an additional 40-hours of volunteer service with Cooperative Extension. Participants who do not wish to pursue this title may still complete the training program and are welcome to apply.
The goal for this training course is to provide practical knowledge and skills that can help residents maintain sustainable and productive gardens and landscapes. Hands-on learning opportunities coupled with classroom instruction will be provided. Occasional field trips will also be used to introduce participants to course subjects and local experts.
