Summer is winding down and many of us are thinking about back to school, new pencils, and thinking about what sports we might like to do. While we had a ton of fun this summer, attending Electric Congress, competing in 4-H District and State Presentations, learning about countries and cultures all around the world with 4-H Book Explorers with the Pamlico County Library, and enjoying a week at sleep away camp, we are very excited for autumn.

Returning Fall Programs

Several of our fall programs will be coming back! It’s Electric, Chopped! International, and Sew Much Fun.

4-H Ag 101

First, our 4-H Ag 101 class will be kicking off next week. They will be exploring the agriculture industry from aquaculture, to different farming strategies, and new advancements in research. We will also be expanding our micro-farm at the school. We are excited to get out and start learning by doing!

It’s Electric

We are also excited for It’s Electric to be picking back up after our summer break. Last year, members of our SPIN Club made mini–Tesla Coils, retro game cubes, and started photo-sensing cars. They also completed project record books. Five of our 4-H’ers earned the opportunity to attend NC 4-H State Electric Congress this summer. We are very excited to finish our photo sensing cars and to start our next project.

Pamlico County 4-H’ers explore electricity and circuits by building their own mini Tesla coils, learning hands-on STEM skills in a fun and engaging way.

Sew Much Fun

Sew Much Fun is also back from our summer break! Last year we began designing our own quilt projects, using geometry and math. We enjoyed watching them not only develop skills in sewing, but to apply math to their creative endeavors. We hope to see them all completed and we are looking forward to starting new exciting projects.

4-H’ers develop sewing and math skills as they design and create their own handmade bags, combining creativity with practical learning.

Chopped! International

Chopped! International is also back! Last year we learned about several different countries through food. We learned about Italy, Thailand, Russia, the UK, Morocco, and France. We made scones, stroganoff, Spaghetti Bolognese, and more! Youth practiced safe food preparation, honed their knife skills with different types of chopping, and were also able to learn about the government and languages of the countries whose food we made! We will have three Chopped! International workshops this fall. Each workshop is a separate registration.

New Programs and Opportunities

These are just a few of the 4-H programs that we have on the calendar that are coming back this fall but we also have a few new programs coming too!

Cloverbud Workshops

We are also looking forward to beginning a series of Cloverbud workshops. Cloverbuds are 4-H’ers ages 5 – 7 who are just starting their time in 4-H.

Podcasting & Audio-Engineering Program

We are also looking forward to beginning a podcasting and audio-engineering program for our older 4-H’ers. This program will focus on gaining skills in podcasting and audio-engineering as well as allowing our teens to explore careers they may be interested in.

Registration and Enrollment

Registrations for these programs are opening this week! If you have questions about a specific program or 4-H in Pamlico County, please give our 4-H agent Kait Neeland a call at (252) 745-4121 or by email at kait_neeland@ncsu.edu.
